10 Proven SEO Techniques: How to Drive Organic Traffic

SEO advice online is roughly 80 percent recycled rubbish, 15 percent outdated nonsense from 2014, and 5 percent actually useful. We're going to attempt to be in the 5 percent. No promises. Here are ten techniques that genuinely move the needle, based on things we've done for real clients in the real world.

1. Stop Writing for Google. Write for Humans.

Google's algorithm has spent the last decade learning to read like a person. It notices when you've crammed "plumber Newcastle cheap plumber Newcastle emergency plumber Newcastle" into a paragraph. It notices, it judges, and it punishes. Write for the human, optimise for the bot as an afterthought.

2. Nail Search Intent

If someone searches "best running trainers", they don't want your blog about the history of rubber. They want a list. Match what you publish to what people actually want when they type the query, and watch rankings climb without doing anything else clever.

3. Fix Your Site Speed

If your site takes longer than three seconds to load, over half your visitors have already left to watch a reel about otters. Page speed is a ranking factor, but more importantly it's a "does anyone stick around" factor.

  • Compress images: That 4MB hero photo is killing you.
  • Lazy load: Only load what's visible.
  • Ditch dodgy plugins: Every one you add is a small tax on your speed.

4. Internal Linking Is Free Authority

Every time you link one page on your site to another, you're telling Google what matters and how pages relate. Most sites have a handful of these and wonder why nothing ranks. Our SEO service usually triples this number before breakfast.

5. Build Genuinely Useful Content

The kind someone would bookmark. The kind that answers a question so completely the reader doesn't need to click back. This is the content that earns links, shares and return visits without you begging for any of them.

6. Get the Technical Basics Right

Schema markup, clean URLs, proper heading hierarchy, an XML sitemap, a sensible robots.txt. None of this is glamorous. All of it matters. It's the difference between a car with an engine and a car that's a lovely colour but won't start.

7. Earn Backlinks, Don't Buy Them

Paid links are the SEO equivalent of a dodgy MOT. It works until it doesn't, and when it doesn't, everything falls over spectacularly. Earn links by being genuinely link-worthy. Boring advice, consistently underrated.

8. Optimise for Local (If You're Local)

Google Business Profile, consistent NAP citations, local content, reviews, the lot. If you serve Newcastle, Gateshead, North Shields or anywhere in the region, local SEO is where the cheap wins are hiding.

9. Refresh Old Content

That blog post from 2019 ranking on page two? Update it. Add new sections, new data, new internal links. Re-publishing with genuine improvements is the closest thing SEO has to a cheat code. We build this into every content retainer we run.

10. Measure the Right Things

Rankings are a vanity metric. Traffic is a better metric. Conversions are the only metric that actually pays your mortgage. Track the thing that makes money, not the thing that makes you feel clever at networking events.
