Boost Your Website's Ranking with Essential SEO Strategies

Another SEO blog. We know. We promise this one isn't a listicle of "use keywords, build links, write good content" that you've read forty times already. These are the moves we actually make when we take over an account and want to see results in the first quarter.

Do a Proper Technical Crawl First

Before you write a word of new content or chase a single backlink, crawl the site. Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, whatever you like. Find the broken links, redirect chains, orphan pages, thin content, duplicate title tags, missing meta descriptions. Fix the plumbing before you pour the champagne in.

Identify Your Top Pages and Protect Them

Most sites get most of their traffic from a handful of pages. Know which ones. Monitor their rankings weekly. If one of them dips, react immediately. These pages are paying the mortgage, treat them with the respect they deserve.

Keyword Research: Look for Gaps, Not Volumes

  • Competitor gap analysis: What do they rank for that you don't?
  • Question keywords: "How", "what", "why" queries often have lower competition and great intent.
  • Long-tail clusters: Three or four-word phrases with clear intent convert far better than head terms.

Content That Matches Intent, Not Just Keywords

We've said this before and we'll say it again because nobody's listening. If the query is informational, write an article. If it's transactional, write a sales page. If it's navigational, don't bother, they'll find you. Mismatching intent is the single most common reason content doesn't rank.

Internal Linking Audit and Overhaul

Map your current internal links. You'll find your most important pages have the fewest links pointing to them, and your oldest, most irrelevant pages have the most. Rebalance. Pass authority to the pages that pay. We do this on every new SEO account in week one.

Earn Links Through Digital PR

Cold outreach begging for links is dying. Digital PR, where you create something genuinely newsworthy and pitch it to journalists, is very much alive. A good data-led piece can earn twenty high-authority links in a fortnight. A bad "we wrote a blog post, link to us please?" email earns zero and a spam complaint.

Optimise for Featured Snippets

That box at the top of Google with an answer pulled from a web page? That's position zero, and it steals clicks from position one. Structure your content with clear questions as headings, concise answers immediately below, lists and tables where appropriate. Low effort, high upside.

Don't Forget E-E-A-T

Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness. Google's quality raters obsess about it. Author bios, credentials, citations, case studies, real company details, actual contact information. Especially important for YMYL (Your Money Your Life) niches. Our content standards build this in by default.

Essential SEO isn't a secret. It's a sequence. Fix the technical, understand the intent, write the content, link the pages, earn the authority, measure the impact, repeat. Do it for six months and the results will look miraculous. They aren't. They're just the result of actually doing the work, rather than talking about it at networking breakfasts.
